Litchfield Park is a small city of around 5,000 people located in Maricopa County, Arizona, a few miles northwest of Phoenix. The city got its name from Paul Weeks Litchfield, who was an executive at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

He came to this area in 1916 looking for a good land to grow cotton, which was much needed for the production of tires of the company. He couldn’t convince local farmers to grow cotton for the company, so instead, he formed the Southwest Cotton Company.

This company eventually bought 36,000 acres in the area, out of which 5,000 were around the current location of the city, and first got the name of Litchfield Ranch. A relatively large workforce was brought in for the cotton site, and they eventually formed Litchfield Park in 1926.
